Assessment

In accordance with National Curriculum framework 2005, Sinhgad City School has adopted Continuous, Comprehensive Evaluation System. The C C E system helps in doing away with wrote learning /memorising the content and encourages group work, projects, assignments, oral work etc. Formative Evaluation is done continuously along with processes of learning.


FORMATIVE EVALUATION – is a continuous process in Sinhgad City School and it is carried through following techniques.

STD V – VIII

  • Daily Observation – Teachers observe students keeping in view the learning experiences given to them. Student’s progress is assessed gradually through observation technique.
  • Oral Work – Learning outcome can be measured through oral expression by the student. e.g. students can be asked to explain the method of solving a sum, graph, concept etc. In science, students are asked to explain the experiment, diagram, models etc.
  • Experiments / Practicals – ‘Every action is a source of thought’. This technique ensures maximum participation of students in learning. Performing experiments help students to understand the subject in detail and facilitates self learning.
  • Assignments and Activities – To achieve objectives of various subjects teachers give assignments and activities to students for various topics.
  • Project – Projects have very important place in education. Through projects students apply their knowledge, collect information from various sources , find solutions for various problems. Teachers use this technique to assess various skills in students viz. analysis, synthesis and evaluation etc.
  • Tests – Students assessment is also done by conducting written tests based on lessons.
  • Class Work and Homework – Students are given homework regularly keeping in view that it helps students in developing the skill of self learning. Teachers also monitor students’ classwork regularly.
  • Other Techniques – Along with the techniques mentioned above, teachers use other techniques also like self assessment, questionnaire, group work etc to assess students performance from time to time.

SUMMATIVE EVALUATION

Std V and VI

Written examination of 40 marks and oral exam / practical exam of 10 marks is conducted for summative evaluation of students.Std VII and VIII

Written examination of 50 marks and oral exam / practical exam of 10 marks is conducted for summative evaluation of students.STD : IX {INTERNAL EVALUATION}

  • Internal evaluation consists of marks of unit tests, assignments, essays, homework, orals and practicals.
  • Internal evaluation is conducted through various techniques. These are as follows.
  • Two unit tests of 20 marks each are conducted for all subjects.
  • Homework and Assignments: Students are given homework and assignments of 10 marks each on various topics and are assessed.
  • Students write Essays and other creative write-ups which carry marks.
  • Projects : students are given projects in Science
  • Oral assessment of 20 marks is also done in all the three languages.

Term I+II Exam
• Written exams are conducted for all subjects at the end of each term.
• Orals and practicals are also conducted before the written exams
